Sommelier – Premium Hospitality Group

About the role

Premium Hospitality Group is seeking knowledgeable and charismatic sommeliers to join their teams at its Bryanston and Parkhurst venues in Johannesburg. The role involves managing curated, high‑end wine lists and delivering exceptional wine service in vibrant dining settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional wine service and expert pairing advice to guests, enhancing the overall dining experience.
• Oversee wine inventory, ensure proper storage conditions, rotate stock, and maintain meticulous records.
• Collaborate with the Beverage Manager and chefs to develop wine lists that complement Greek, Italian, or steakhouse menus.
• Conduct regular training sessions for front‑of‑house staff to improve wine knowledge and upselling techniques.
• Monitor wine sales trends and implement strategies to achieve beverage revenue targets.

Required profile

• Formal wine certification (e.g., WSET Level 2 or 3 or an equivalent South African sommelier qualification).
• Minimum three years of experience as a sommelier or wine steward in a fine‑dining or premium‑casual environment.
• Deep understanding of South African and international wines, with particular knowledge of Mediterranean varietals considered an advantage.
• Polished floor presence, passion for hospitality and a guest‑first mindset.
