Software Engineer – Simulation

About the role

NOV South Africa is looking for a skilled Software Engineer to lead the delivery and setup of simulators for automation packages. The role focuses on configuring PLC software and optimizing network settings to create high‑performance simulation environments.

Key responsibilities

• Configure PLC software (Siemens S7, TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3) for both simulation and machine environments.
• Establish and optimise network configurations to enhance system performance.
• Fine‑tune simulation performance to meet operational requirements.
• Evaluate and implement new system features to improve functionality.
• Provide technical support to simulator system users.
• Develop comprehensive and clear technical documentation.
• Perform additional tasks as required to support project goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work in an office‑based team environment and in a technical laboratory or workshop.
• Comfortable working with complex technical systems and equipment.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of PLC software, especially Siemens S7 and TIA Portal.
• Strong network configuration and optimisation skills.
• Experience developing and fine‑tuning simulation software.
• Proficiency in debugging simulations of electrical and hydraulic components.
