Software Engineer

About the role

Sanlam is looking for a Software Engineer to own new feature development and solve problems across the codebase. The role requires at least five years of software engineering experience and offers the chance to work closely with Design and Product Management while receiving mentorship from senior peers.

Key responsibilities

• Take ownership of new features from concept through production deployment.
• Work independently to create robust solutions without constant direction.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to raise overall quality.
• Focus on operational and code excellence during code reviews and feature development.
• Improve development, testing, and operational practices.
• Partner with Product Management and Design to understand business context.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and handle incidents efficiently.
• Identify and address small pieces of technical debt within your scope.
• Demonstrate growing influence beyond individual tasks to impact the broader team.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or diploma (BSc in Computer Science, IT or equivalent).
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficiency in full‑stack or back‑end languages such as Python, Java, C++.
• Strong ability to read, review, and understand code.
• Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms and algorithmic problem solving.
