Software Engineer – Embedded & Safety-Critical Systems

About the role

Our client, a leading South African security company serving domestic and international markets, is seeking experienced Software Engineers to develop safety-critical embedded solutions. The role is based in Centurion and involves working within SCRUM teams to deliver high-quality software for defence-related applications.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse system-level requirements and translate them into high-level software specifications.
• Develop and review V-Model (RTCA 178C) documentation, including test cases.
• Write, test and maintain embedded and application-level C/C++ code.
• Verify and validate software functionality through integration testing and defect resolution.
• Participate in software integration activities and lead small SCRUM-based teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience.
• Background in safety-critical or military software environments is advantageous.
• BEng in Computer Engineering or equivalent BSc degree.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce clear requirement documentation.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C and C++ programming.
• Experience with embedded operating systems.
• Familiarity with safety-critical development standards (e.g., RTCA 178C).
