Software Engineer - Back End

About the role

Join the high‑performance innovation hub of Dis‑Chem to build backend services that power smarter healthcare experiences for South Africans. As a Software Engineer you will independently deliver end‑to‑end features, ensuring quality, reliability and maintainability while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs supporting multiple concurrent projects.
• Integrate third‑party services such as payment gateways, CRM, loyalty and logistics platforms.
• Write clean, well‑tested, maintainable code and follow best engineering practices.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions.
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve issues across development, test and production environments.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong grasp of object‑oriented or functional programming, data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
• Ability to learn new languages or frameworks independently.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, comfortable working in an agile, ambiguous environment.
• Good communication skills and experience collaborating with front‑end engineers, product owners and UX designers.

Required skills

• Backend languages: Java, C#.NET, Node.js, Python, Go.
• RESTful API design and microservices concepts.
• Relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases.
• Version control with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Integration with third‑party APIs and external services.
