Software Development Manager – EC2 Instance Placement

About the role

The Software Development Manager for EC2 Instance Placement leads the team that builds the control‑plane and data‑streaming systems that decide where new EC2 instances run. You will shape the vision, roadmap, and culture for a high‑impact group that optimizes compute placement across AWS data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of Software Development Engineers to design, build, and operate real‑time placement systems.
• Define and drive the product roadmap, leveraging data to improve compute allocation for customers.
• Recruit, mentor, and grow high‑performing engineers while fostering an inclusive culture.
• Ensure operational excellence and maintain robust agile development processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders across CPU, networking, and data‑center engineering.

Required profile

• Proven technical leadership experience managing software teams delivering complex systems.
• Strong background in software engineering with interest in optimization, machine learning, and data streaming.
• Bias for action, excellent judgment, and ability to prioritize in an agile environment.
• Effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders.
