SMME Development Manager II

About the role

The SMME Development Manager II is responsible for researching, assessing, recommending and onboarding small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to support the organisation's supply‑chain strategy. The role involves managing development projects for selected enterprises and providing feedback to shape the overall SMME development strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Research and identify potential SMME growth enterprises aligned with the entity’s vision, mission and milestones.
• Collaborate with business unit teams and corporate affairs to pinpoint supply‑chain opportunities and create a database of current and potential SMMEs.
• Develop shortlists based on organisational requirements and enterprise growth potential.
• Design and implement a standard operating procedure for the SMME Helpdesk.
• Secure approvals, communicate assessment processes, and manage expectations with enterprise leadership.
• Conduct human‑capital and operational governance assessments, producing detailed reports and development plans.
• Prioritise enterprises based on supply‑chain needs, risk assessments and readiness.
• Lead SMME development projects, defining timelines, engaging service providers, and ensuring alignment with B‑BBEE criteria.
• Obtain final project approvals, budgets and commitment from business unit heads.

Required profile

• Proven ability to research, assess and onboard SMME enterprises.
• Experience managing development projects that align with supply‑chain objectives.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with enterprise leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Capability to evaluate human‑capital capacity, operational governance and risk factors.
• Familiarity with creating assessment reports and development plans.
