Shaft Foreman

About the role

The Shaft Foreman leads the safe and efficient operation of shaft and construction timber activities within a mining environment. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures compliance with safety standards, drives cost‑effective maintenance, and supports the overall production schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, procure and maintain specialised tools required for shaft maintenance and ensure workshop upgrades meet best‑practice standards.
• Develop, approve and monitor division budgets, drive cost‑saving initiatives and manage operational expenditures.
• Support a values‑based culture by participating in organisational development programmes and culture assessments.
• Create critical spare‑parts lists using RCM methodology, standardise equipment components and maintain accurate bills of material.
• Ensure ESG compliance with international responsible mining principles, including WGC and eTfS initiatives.
• Maintain accurate equipment data in the ERP system, update technical manuals, and develop performance parameters for monitoring.

Required profile

• NQF 3 or equivalent qualification.
• Onsetter’s/Banksman Certificate and Blasting/Rock Breaking Certificate.
• Production Supervisor or relevant Foreman Certificate (must be obtained within 24 months if promoted internally).
• Minimum 5 years experience as a shaft or construction timber professional.
• MV Competent (for electrical supervision), medically fit, clear security record and valid driver’s licence where applicable.
