Senior Tailings Engineer

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Tailings Engineer to join its Mine Waste team in Midrand on a full‑time basis. The role is senior‑level within the consulting practice and involves delivering expert tailings and geotechnical services to mining clients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice on complex tailings issues, including design, construction, operation, closure and stability analysis.
• Lead project direction for high‑budget, high‑complexity assignments, including contract negotiation and strategic planning.
• Mentor and coach junior and intermediate engineers, and participate in hiring, performance and salary reviews.
• Prepare and review detailed technical reports, proposals and client presentations.
• Ensure health and safety leadership on all engineering activities.

Required profile

• Relevant BEng or BSc degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (honours preferred).
• Minimum 10 years post‑graduation experience with specialist skills in tailings and geotechnical engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA.
• Proven ability to manage large, multidisciplinary projects and client relationships.
