Senior Specialist - UCC Engineering

About the role

MTN is looking for a Senior Specialist in UCC Engineering for its Converged Solutions area. The role provides expert technical guidance and oversight on the design, implementation and optimisation of engineering solutions, turning sector and client needs into business-line solutions that drive value, while managing vendor relationships and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and oversight on Converged solutions, collaborate with Pre-Sales, Solution Sales Operations and Architecture to build commercial constructs, and execute engineering strategies aligned with MTN's objectives.
• Design and implement scalable, reliable solutions, working with product engineering and IT teams, and lead configuration, deployment and integration of software systems.
• Offer third-level technical support, troubleshoot complex issues, monitor performance and capacity, and maintain technical documentation.
• Run capacity assessments, oversee project execution, and implement new technologies and innovative practices.
• Represent the engineering team in stakeholder meetings, take part in governance forums, and ensure compliance with Group standards and legislative requirements.
• Manage escalations affecting the critical path of service delivery, and identify and mitigate risks and dependencies.
• Manage vendor relationships, identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue-generating ideas, and benchmark against competitors.
• Coach colleagues, take ownership of personal development, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 3-year tertiary qualification or degree in Computer Science, IT or Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in telecommunications engineering, with a focus on network design, systems implementation and optimisation.
• Proven track record delivering large-scale engineering projects in a telecom or technology-driven environment.
• Knowledge of B2B technology architecture and telecommunications infrastructure, including cloud/UCC product lines.
• Experience working across diverse cultures and geographies is advantageous.

Required skills

• Microsoft Certified Professional certification.
• Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure and ability to deliver multiple solutions.
• Business acumen, analytics and interpretation, strategic thinking, and domain-specific technical expertise.
