Senior Specialist – Defensive Systems

About the role

The Senior Specialist – Defensive Systems will design, implement and maintain network security solutions across the division. Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure Security, the role takes a proactive stance on risk management, incident response and continuous improvement of defensive capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and mature network security solutions including firewalls, IPS, VPN, WAF and NAC.
• Lead incident response and breach management processes, including forensics and post‑incident analysis.
• Upgrade network devices to ensure security patches and stable software versions.
• Design high‑availability and disaster‑recovery architectures for security infrastructure.
• Manage a team of specialists and external consultants, providing coaching and performance development.
• Document security incidents and produce mitigation plans to prevent future risks.

Required profile

• Degree (NQF 7) in Security, Information Technology or equivalent.
• 8–10 years of experience in information security with a focus on network security and incident management.
• Professional certifications: CISSP and CISM (required); CCNA, CCSA, CCSE (preferred).
• Proven track record of upgrading and troubleshooting network devices.

• Firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Network Monitoring tools.
• VPN, Web Application Firewall (WAF), Network Access Control (NAC).
• Advanced troubleshooting of network devices.
• Incident response, forensics and breach management.
