Senior Software Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Sotheby's, a global institution behind the world's most prestigious art and luxury goods auctions, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its remote technical team. The engineer helps evolve the firm's proprietary technology platform, which connects collectors with items across 70 categories. The role involves regular collaboration with cross-functional teams to conceive, architect and deploy features, keeping the systems behind global auctions and retail operations responsive, performant and resilient.

Key responsibilities

• Engineer, maintain and scale core software components within the Sotheby's technology ecosystem.
• Work with product managers, designers and engineers to define technical specifications for new features.
• Monitor application performance closely to spot and fix bottlenecks before they affect users.
• Take part in the full software development lifecycle so that deployments are high quality, bug-free and maintainable.
• Apply sound software design practices to keep the platform competitive.

Required profile

• At least five years of professional software development experience, preferably in complex or large-scale environments.
• Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills for remote teamwork across time zones.
• Proactive approach to spotting systemic issues and proposing improvements to platform health.

Required skills

• Deep proficiency in Golang, including its frameworks and ecosystem.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies and building for distributed systems.
