Senior Project Manager

About the role

North-West University’s Faculty of Engineering – Industry and Community Engagement is looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead engineering and product‑development projects. The role will improve efficiency, accountability and performance tracking across industry‑focused initiatives and support the department’s growth.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, objectives and detailed plans, including timelines, milestones and resource allocation.
• Prepare cost estimates, develop and monitor budgets, and ensure projects stay within approved financial limits.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing contingency plans as needed.
• Engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, manage expectations and gather feedback.
• Oversee day‑to‑day project execution, coordinate activities, resolve issues and ensure timely delivery of deliverables.
• Maintain clear communication channels, produce regular progress reports and facilitate project meetings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Engineering (NQF level 9) or equivalent.
• At least three years of project‑management experience.
• Minimum two years experience in product development and two years in engineering projects.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, under pressure and to conduct academic research.
• Sound mental and physical health, sober habits and professional social skills.
• Added advantage: MBA with a focus on Business or Project Management.
