Senior Project Developer – Greenfields

About the role

Scatec is seeking a Senior Project Developer to lead the development and de‑risking of utility‑scale greenfield renewable energy projects in Cape Town. You will guide projects from early concept through to financial close, ensuring technical, environmental, social and commercial viability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end development of wind, solar PV and battery storage projects from pre‑feasibility to financial close.
• Manage workstreams such as site screening, land acquisition, permitting, environmental approvals, grid connection and stakeholder engagement.
• Coordinate environmental impact assessments, water use licence applications, land‑use planning and other statutory approvals.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to environment, biodiversity, land, social issues, permitting, grid, community and financing.
• Collaborate with engineering, legal, finance, procurement, construction and asset‑management teams to progress projects.
• Oversee external consultants, advisors and service providers, ensuring quality, compliance and budget control.

Required profile

• Proven experience in greenfield renewable energy project development, preferably in wind, solar PV or battery storage.
• Strong understanding of permitting, environmental and land‑use processes in South Africa.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Excellent analytical and risk‑assessment skills with a results‑oriented mindset.
