Senior Nurse/Phlebotomy Technician In-Charge – Hermanus

About the role

An opportunity exists for a Senior Professional Nurse/Senior Staff Nurse/Senior Phlebotomy Technician In-Charge to join the team at our Hermanus branch. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong phlebotomy competence, leadership ability, high ethics and alignment with PathCare values.

Key responsibilities

• Manage pathology operations at the site, including HR, finance, quality matters and system audits.
• Mentor, develop and train team members to encourage growth.
• Collaborate with the Nursing Services Manager and pathologists to drive innovation.
• Communicate, implement and manage organisational strategies, objectives and policies.
• Oversee day‑to‑day HR administration for direct reports.
• Investigate, recommend and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiencies.
• Perform advanced maintenance, housekeeping and troubleshooting of technical problems.
• Identify and manage stakeholder needs to optimise patient care and strengthen relationships.
• Handle complaints and queries promptly and effectively.
• Model and promote PathCare values to create a purpose‑driven workplace.

Required profile

• Nursing Diploma or Degree, Enrolled Nurse Certificate or Phlebotomy Technician qualification.
• Current registration with the SANC/HPCSA and at least 5 years post‑registration experience.
• 2‑3 years of phlebotomy experience, including order of draw and operation of Point‑of‑Care instruments.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence (manual transmission).
• Intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office).
• Management or supervisory experience in a pathology environment is advantageous.
• Proven leadership, team‑building and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Experience in training staff and maintaining QA systems.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving abilities.
