Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

About the role

Zutari, a buildings, engineering and advisory firm with over 90 years of experience across Africa and the Middle East, is looking for a senior mechanical engineer within its Built Environment Unit. You will manage teams and lead the design and implementation of a wide range of building services projects, working digitally with colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full design aspects of mechanical services across building services projects.
• Lead a team of digital designers, engineers, technicians and modellers.
• Analyse project requirements against codes and standards, developing conceptual designs to construction information.
• Coordinate building services design for projects such as data centres, education and sports facilities, hospitals, commercial buildings and transport facilities.
• Manage and coordinate interdisciplinary interfaces.
• Quality check deliverables from global and remote teams, including modelling and data/parameter management.
• Maintain project records under the internal quality system and keep the client informed on progress.
• Keep account of resourcing, timeliness, quality, risk, financial performance and scope, and challenge the team on technical trends and design execution.

Required profile

• BSc/BEng/BTech in Mechanical Engineering; postgraduate qualification advantageous.
• Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or equivalent.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience in the mechanical environment within the built environment, preferably in an infrastructure engineering consultancy.
• Strong background in HVAC design and chilled water system design.
• Understanding of local and international codes and standards; international project experience advantageous.
