Senior Manager – Data Science

About the role

The Senior Manager, Data Science will lead the enterprise-wide data governance strategy, shaping policies, standards and stewardship across the organisation. This role partners with legal, risk, compliance and technical teams to embed governance into data products and operational processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of data governance policies, roles, stewardship and standards.
• Define and enforce data quality metrics, KPIs and remediation processes.
• Oversee metadata management, data lineage and cataloguing tools.
• Collaborate with legal, risk and compliance on regulatory data obligations.
• Chair or support data governance councils and stakeholder working groups.
• Embed governance into platforms, data products and operational processes.
• Promote a culture of data ownership and stewardship across business domains.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree in Data Governance, Data Management or MBA preferred.
• 8–12 years of experience in data governance, data management or information quality roles, with a proven track record of implementing frameworks in regulated environments such as financial services, fintech or telecoms.
• Strong stakeholder engagement across business, risk, legal, compliance and technical teams.
• Familiarity with data regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR, BCBS 239) and enterprise data management principles (DAMA‑DMBOK, DCAM).
• Preferred certifications: Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) – DAMA, DCAM.
