Senior Investigator: Tariff Investigations I (3 positions)

About the role

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) is recruiting three Senior Investigators for Tariff Investigations I, covering the sectors Chemicals and Plastics; Footwear, Leather and Pharmaceuticals; and Agro-processing. The main task is to investigate applications for customs tariff amendments and rebates, prepare detailed reports and present findings to the Commission and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct investigations on applications for customs tariff amendments and rebates
• Assess the completeness and verify the validity of information in the applications
• Prepare submissions and reports for the Commission and the Minister
• Carry out industry research and incorporate findings and recommendations into submissions
• Deliver verbal presentations to the Commission on investigation findings
• Process permit applications for rebate and drawback provisions
• Assist in other functions assigned to the section

Required profile

• 3-year Bachelor's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics or Business Economics
• At least one year of experience in import tariff investigations, economic, trade and financial analysis, or equivalent competencies gained through work experience
• Demonstrable experience in quantitative economic data analysis using different modelling approaches
• Reasonable understanding of trade and industrial policies
