Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will lead and manage geotechnical investigations, review results, and ensure acceptance of data such as core logs, test pit profiles and laboratory tests. The role also involves preparing factual, interpretive and design geotechnical reports and providing on‑site technical guidance during construction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage geological and geotechnical projects, including multidisciplinary, site investigation, infrastructure and building projects.
• Review and interpret investigation data, including core logs, test pit profiles and laboratory test results.
• Prepare and review factual, interpretive and design geotechnical reports.
• Conduct field observations and provide geotechnical input during design and construction phases.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated project delivery.
• Ensure geotechnical works comply with specifications, contractual requirements and design standards.
• Liaise with geotechnical contractors to meet client expectations, quality requirements and deadlines.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; postgraduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering advantageous.
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• At least 10 years of post‑graduate experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Proven experience on large, intermediate and small projects across various sectors.

• Geotechnical design expertise.
• Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software.
