Senior Environmental Technician – Sustainable City Initiative

About the role

Provide technical support to the Sustainable and Resilient City Initiative Unit in developing and implementing an IDP‑compliant Environmental Management System for eThekwini Municipality. The role involves coordinating environmental research, policy development and stakeholder engagement to promote sustainable urban development.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct environmental research and assist with project delivery.
• Liaise with government, community, business and institutional representatives on environmental planning and management.
• Prepare and contribute municipal inputs to provincial environmental management and implementation plans.
• Draft reports, correspondence and manage information related to environmental policies.
• Support the preparation, approval, monitoring and review of environmental policies and plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (4 years preferred).
• Bachelor of Science degree (NQF Level 7) in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related field.
• Valid motor vehicle driving licence and ability to undertake fieldwork.
