Senior Engineering Underwriter (Johannesburg)

About the role

The Senior Engineering Underwriter will assess and underwrite new engineering insurance business within tight turnaround times, driving profitable premium growth while keeping risk within acceptable limits. The role combines technical insurance knowledge with strong decision‑making to support both underwriting and claims functions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain sound knowledge of all engineering insurance policies and apply them to quote requests.
• Manage the end‑to‑end process for each quote, ensuring delivery within the 12‑hour target.
• Provide excellent service to brokers and internal stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relationships.
• Prioritise daily workload to meet departmental standards and service level agreements.
• Collaborate with brokers, service providers, and other divisions to resolve challenges and improve service efficiency.

Required profile

• Matric qualification; a BSc in Civil Engineering is advantageous.
• Full FAIS qualification and successful completion of the Regulatory Representatives exam.
• Minimum five years of experience in engineering insurance underwriting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual ability is a plus.
• Problem‑solver capable of assimilating large amounts of information and applying policy wording accurately.
