Senior Energy Design Engineer – Renewable Power Projects

About the role

Arup is seeking a Senior Energy Design Engineer to join its multidisciplinary Energy team in South Africa. The role will support the delivery of large‑scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind, battery storage, green hydrogen and mini‑/micro‑grid solutions, helping clients decarbonise their operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design and engineering for photovoltaic, wind, storage and grid‑connection projects.
• Develop feasibility studies, concept designs, technical specifications and tender documentation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships.
• Provide business development support and contribute to project finance modelling.
• Ensure compliance with South African regulations and ECSA professional standards.

Required profile

• B.Eng. or BSc in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a renewable‑energy focus.
• Professional registration with ECSA.
• Proven experience in renewable‑energy project delivery and decarbonisation initiatives.
• Strong understanding of industrial processes and technologies for emissions reduction.
