Senior Electrical Engineer – Data Centre & Industrial Power Systems

About the role

WSP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist/Technician to join its Property & Build Services team in South Africa. You will provide technical leadership for the design and delivery of high‑reliability electrical power systems supporting data centre and industrial infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs from concept through detailed design and construction support.
• Collaborate with a global, multi‑disciplinary engineering team, taking an active role in design coordination.
• Own defined work packages and deliver projects from inception to close‑out, with a focus on data centre projects.
• Engage with clients and professional teams, ensuring clear technical communication and coordination.
• Perform power system studies including load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination and arc‑flash analysis.
• Specify and integrate MV systems, transformers, standby generation, UPS systems and switchgear.
• Demonstrate SHEQ leadership, identify risks and promote a zero‑harm safety culture.

Required profile

• Excellent English communication skills, including technical report writing.
• Working knowledge of IEC, SANS and BS standards for MV/LV power systems.
• Familiarity with data‑centre standards such as TIA‑942 and Uptime principles (advantageous).
• Understanding of building contracts relevant to the services industry (JBCC, FIDIC, NEC, etc.).
• Strong knowledge of MV and LV power distribution and standby generation systems, including synchronization schemes and reliability concepts.
