Senior Buyer – Camping Category

About the role

Takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a Senior Buyer with experience in the Camping category to join its Retail team in Cape Town. The role will drive growth across sales, brands, suppliers and new product listings within the department.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive Camping strategy to increase sales, expand brand portfolio and grow supplier base.
• Source and prioritize new brands and suppliers in line with market trends and consumer demand.
• Deliver against financial and service level targets such as sales, margin, product availability and stock cover.
• Negotiate pricing, improve trading terms and manage supplier relationships according to strict SLAs.
• Design promotional programmes, secure deals and manage site merchandising for the category.
• Support operations by monitoring returns, handling product queries and resolving customer complaints.
• Manage stock levels, replenishment orders and ensure timely product delivery and quality.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of retail buying, commerce or e‑commerce experience, preferably in Camping or outdoor.
• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Science or Commerce (or 8 years equivalent experience).
• Strong commercial acumen and analytical mindset.
• Proven ability to build and maintain supplier relationships and meet SLAs.
• Solution‑oriented, self‑motivated and comfortable with change.
