Senior Building Estimator – Construction Projects

About the role

Our client, a well‑established building contractor in Cape Town, is looking for an experienced Senior Building Estimator to lead cost estimating for large‑scale building projects. You will work closely with contracts managers, quantity surveyors and project teams to deliver accurate, competitive tender submissions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare precise cost estimates and tender submissions for building projects.
• Analyse drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Compile Bills of Quantities, pricing schedules and tender reports.
• Identify project risks and opportunities during the tender process.
• Conduct site inspections and attend tender clarification meetings as required.
• Collaborate with contracts managers, quantity surveyors and project teams to ensure accurate pricing.
• Assist with value engineering and cost‑saving proposals.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date database of suppliers, subcontractors and market rates.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Building, BTech or BSc in Quantity Surveying or related qualification.
• Minimum 10 years’ estimating experience with a reputable building contractor.
• Proven track record estimating large‑scale building projects from tender stage through to award.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, pricing principles and contractual documentation.
• Valid driver’s licence.
