Senior Back-End Developer – Cloud & Linux

About the role

We are looking for a senior back‑end developer to lead a high‑performing team in Menlyn, South Africa. The role combines technical hands‑on work with team‑lead responsibilities, ensuring smooth operations across cloud, Linux and database environments.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily team activities, assign tasks and monitor performance.
• Act as the single point of contact between the team and management, reporting progress and aligning goals.
• Oversee shift work (morning, evening, weekend, public holidays) and ensure adherence to PIC (Problem, Incident & Change) processes.
• Develop and maintain scripts (Python, Bash, Perl) and manage database copies (Oracle, MS SQL).
• Plan and execute back‑out, cut‑over, fallback and release activities.
• Provide functional consulting, maintenance support and assist end‑users with troubleshooting.
• Document testing procedures, conduct unit, integration and security tests using X‑Ray.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience in an IT/DevOps environment.
• Relevant IT degree.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to improve existing processes and understand complex data‑flow operations.

Required skills

• Linux operating system.
• Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Oracle and MS SQL databases.
• Python, shell scripting and basic Perl.
• Networking concepts (NAS, mounts, AD groups).
• Winscp, SFTP, SSH and security protocols (certificates, key generation, LDAP).
• Git version control (Bitbucket, GitHub).
