Senior Attorney – Derivatives / ISDA Specialist (Fully Remote)

About the role

A sophisticated commodities trading environment is seeking a highly experienced Senior Attorney – Derivatives / ISDA Specialist to join in a fully remote capacity. The client wants a commercially astute legal professional with extensive experience in banking and finance law, especially ISDA negotiation and derivatives documentation, who can independently manage complex negotiations from inception to execution.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and execute ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes (CSAs) and Guarantees, owning the documentation lifecycle from drafting through execution and maintenance
• Lead complex negotiations with counterparties and external legal representatives and ensure timely execution and enforceability of agreements
• Provide specialist legal documentation support for commodities trading, aligning documentation with trading strategies and working with front-office and trading teams on onboarding and transaction execution
• Identify and mitigate legal, operational and credit risks in derivatives documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal governance
• Collaborate with risk and credit teams on collateral structures and guarantees
• Engage with Legal, Risk, Credit, Operations and Front Office teams, act as a key contact for counterparties and guide them on derivatives documentation
• Drive best practices in documentation and negotiation workflows, improving turnaround times and template standardisation

Required profile

• Admitted attorney (essential) with a BCom LLB (essential)
• Postgraduate legal qualification advantageous
• 7-10 years' banking and finance experience in a large, reputable law firm
• Extensive experience in derivatives documentation and ISDA negotiations, including proven end-to-end ISDA negotiation experience (non-negotiable)
• Ability to work independently in a senior legal capacity; exposure to commodities trading environments advantageous

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs and Guarantees
• Familiarity with GMRA and GMSLA is listed as key
• Deep technical understanding of the ISDA documentation framework
• Strong negotiation and contract management, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple high-volume negotiations
