Senior Associate – Financial Services Lawyer (Markets & Derivatives)

About the role

SATIC, a delivery centre for PwC Legal UK, is seeking a Senior Associate to join its South African hub. The role focuses on providing specialist legal advice and project‑based support for markets and derivatives transactions, working closely with the PwC Legal teams in the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate, review and assess a wide range of markets and derivatives documents, including ISDA Master Agreements, Master Repurchase Agreements, Securities Lending Agreements, Futures Trading Agreements and Clearing/Prime Brokerage Agreements.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert on markets and derivatives, applying industry knowledge to PwC engagements.
• Share knowledge and deliver training to colleagues across the PwC network.
• Support clients in negotiating and executing transactions and develop contract negotiation playbooks.
• Assist clients in leveraging technology‑enabled workflows for contract preparation, negotiation and execution.
• Contribute to business development by building internal referral networks and cultivating direct client relationships.

Required profile

• Qualified and admitted attorney in South Africa or an equivalent common‑law jurisdiction.
• Excellent academic record.
• Three years or more post‑qualification experience (PQE) in financial services and transactional work, either in‑house at a bank/financial institution or at a leading law firm.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating markets or derivatives documentation.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of market‑practice for ISDA, repurchase, securities lending, futures and clearing agreements.
• Proven ability to draft, negotiate and assess complex financial services legal documents.
