Senior Accountant

About the role

Buzz Accounting is building a South African delivery team to support its UK client portfolio. As the first senior hire, you will provide high‑quality accounting services for a diverse range of UK businesses while shaping the team’s processes and culture.

Key responsibilities

• Bookkeeping and transaction processing for UK clients using Xero.
• Prepare and file quarterly VAT returns and Making Tax Digital (MTD) submissions.
• Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts.
• Perform bank reconciliations and manage supplier/customer ledgers.
• Prepare year‑end accounts and liaise with reviewers.
• Support self‑assessment filings for sole traders and directors.
• Process small UK payrolls (with future hand‑over to a specialist).
• Onboard new clients, clean and structure historical data, and set up Xero.
• Communicate professionally with clients via email and flag queries or deadlines.
• Support hiring and onboarding of junior accountants, review their work, allocate workload, and act as first point of escalation.
• Contribute to standard operating procedures and best‑practice documentation.

Required profile

• Experienced accountant seeking ownership and variety.
• Motivated to build processes from the ground up and mentor future team members.
• Willingness to grow into a Pod Leader role within 12 months.
• Strong attention to detail and proactive communication style.
