Security Officer – Newcastle

About the role

Icebolethu Group is looking for a competent Security Guard to monitor, safeguard and surveil its premises and protect staff, visitors, resources and equipment. The post is based in Newcastle and applicants should live in or around Newcastle. The guard must be well trained in guarding, surveillance and dealing with perpetrators, and inspire respect and authority while keeping facilities safe and problem-free.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence
• Monitor and authorise the entrance of vehicles and people
• Secure exits, doors and windows after operations end
• Check surveillance cameras periodically for disruptions or unlawful acts
• Investigate suspicious activity or possessions and respond to alarms by assessing the situation
• Apprehend and detain perpetrators according to legal protocol before the arrival of authorities, and remove trespassers
• Provide assistance to people in need
• Submit daily surveillance reports and important incidents

Required profile

• Matric
• Valid PSIRA certification
• At least 2 years' experience as a security guard or security officer
• Knowledge of legal guidelines for area security and public safety
• Physical health and fitness
• Recent contactable references; criminal, employment reference and credit checks are required

Required skills

• Report writing and strong communication skills
• Advanced or defensive driving skills
• Firearm competency (handgun, shotgun or rifle) is advantageous
• First aid / BLS training and self-defence training
• Tech-savvy, with experience in surveillance systems and communication equipment
