Safety Officer – Renewable Energy Project (Postmasburg)

About the role

Kwena Human Capital is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join the Redstone PV + BESS project, a 19 MWp solar PV plant with a 30 MWh battery storage system in Postmasburg, Northern Cape. The role is full‑time, site‑based and involves working within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and compliant project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Support the project team in delivering works according to the approved programme, specifications and quality standards.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documentation, and coordinate technical interfaces between PV, electrical, BESS, SCADA/PTMC and other disciplines.
• Supervise and coordinate site activities, manage work fronts and subcontractor activities, and ensure materials and equipment are available as required.
• Monitor progress, productivity and workmanship, and ensure compliance with approved drawings, ITPs and quality requirements.
• Comply with HSE requirements and South African legislation, participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks and site inspections, and exercise stop‑work authority when necessary.

Required profile

• Relevant Diploma / National Diploma / NQF Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years’ experience as a Safety/HSE Officer, preferably on large‑scale construction, EPC or renewable‑energy projects.
• Knowledge of the Construction Regulations 2014 and experience with Construction Health & Safety Plans, risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Proven ability to conduct site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and manage contractor HSE compliance.

Required skills

• Valid First Aid and Fire‑Fighting certificates.
• SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification (advantageous).
• Experience with Construction Regulations 2014, CHSP, risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Ability to perform incident reporting, investigations and maintain HSE registers and documentation.
