Safety, Health & Environment Officer (Cape Town)

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Officer to lead occupational health, safety, environmental and security initiatives at its head office in Cape Town. The role will coordinate compliance, risk mitigation and business continuity across the Dis‑Chem region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement SHEQ resilience plans and business continuity management for all sites.
• Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, incident investigations and audits to ensure compliance with legislation and internal policies.
• Manage contractor compliance, coordinate emergency drills, and support evacuation procedures.
• Provide training and coaching to site managers and employees on SHEQ responsibilities.
• Report on occupational health and safety activities, track audit findings and maintain SHE data management processes.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) with a Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, SAMTRAC or equivalent.
• 3‑5 years of safety experience in a retail environment.
• South African citizenship, clean criminal record, and a valid driver’s licence with reliable transport.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and MS Project.
• Ability to conduct incident investigations and risk assessments.
