Robotics & Vision Systems Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Robotics & Vision Specialist to join our Production team. The successful candidate will maintain, optimise and support robotic and vision systems to maximise equipment availability, improve operational efficiency and drive continuous technological advancement in the Paint Shop. This position is based in the Paint Shop – Production (Kariega).

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise robotic paint‑application systems for reliable production performance.
• Ensure paint robots deliver optimum paint quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve robotic, automation and vision‑related issues.
• Support implementation of new technologies and automation projects.
• Provide technical expertise and training to maintenance and engineering teams.
• Manage system upgrades, modifications and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Plan spare‑parts inventory and oversee equipment lifecycle management.
• Develop technical specifications and business cases for future investments.
• Assist production and maintenance teams during breakdowns, including standby duties.

Required profile

• Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
• Certified paint‑robot training (Durr / Fanuc) and PLC training (Siemens Step 7/TIA Portal).
• Minimum 8 years post‑graduate experience in a manufacturing environment, with expert knowledge of robotic paint‑application equipment.
• Extensive experience in industrial automation integration (Robotics, PLCs, VSDs, SCADA systems) and fault‑finding.
• Project‑management experience and ability to design robust preventative‑maintenance plans.

Required skills

• Paint robot operation and optimisation (Durr, Fanuc).
• PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens Step 7, TIA Portal).
• SCADA system configuration and maintenance.
• Motion‑control and drive technology expertise.
• Basic machine‑vision system knowledge.
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
