Retail Blockman (Butchery)

About the role

The Retail Blockman will join a busy butchery team in Gqeberha, processing and preparing high‑quality meat products for retail customers. The position works flexible retail hours, including weekends and public holidays, and requires strict adherence to hygiene and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate commercial bandsaws and other heavy‑duty butchery machinery to cut bone‑in meats, frozen products, and primal cuts safely and efficiently.
• De‑bone, trim, and portion carcasses into retail cuts, prepare mince, sausages, and quick‑meal products using commercial mincers and fillers.
• Maintain, clean, and sterilise all cutting tools and machinery throughout each shift, following OHSA and HACCP guidelines.
• Inspect incoming meat deliveries for freshness, temperature, and quality, and merchandise meat counters with attractive, well‑wrapped displays.
• Provide knowledgeable customer service, advising shoppers on specific cuts and cooking techniques.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Blockman or meat cutter in a retail or commercial butchery environment.
• Strong physical stamina to lift heavy carcasses and stand for long periods.
• Attention to detail and a strict commitment to safety and sanitation standards.
• Fluent English communication skills.
