Resident Engineer – Durban (Road Infrastructure)

About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Resident Engineer to supervise the construction of road infrastructure projects in Durban. The role involves close collaboration with contractors and consultants to ensure that specifications, quality standards and schedules are met on site.

Key responsibilities

• Provide contractors with drawings, specifications and instructions for proper execution of works.
• Monitor and report on the contractor’s approved programme and track project timelines.
• Conduct site audits, inspections and quality‑control testing, approving or rejecting work as required.
• Maintain site documentation, implement the engineer’s quality‑control plan and ensure adequate equipment is available.
• Supervise construction activities, enforce compliance with quality standards and attend technical meetings.
• Ensure safety standards are adhered to and report any deviations.
• Track material usage and coordinate with suppliers.

Required profile

• BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with registration as a Professional Engineer or Technologist with ECSA.
• Minimum 20 + years of relevant experience on major road projects.
• Experience with major upgrades, FIDIC contracts and SANRAL procedures.
• Familiarity with COTO specifications and BOQ preparation.
• Knowledge of SANRAL documentation and PAIA compliance.
