Resident Engineer – Civil Projects

About the role

The Resident Engineer will support project coordination, scope definition, construction monitoring and overall project administration across multiple civil engineering projects. This is a relief position from 1 Nov 2026 to 28 Feb 2027, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver project management and contract administration services for civil works such as roads, storm‑water drainage, water supply, sewer and bulk earthworks.
• Supervise construction activities daily, ensuring quality, schedule adherence, client communication and regular progress reporting.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, specialists and authorities while maintaining quality assurance and safety standards.
• Prepare and review contractor documentation including key personnel CVs, methodology, quality control plans and files.
• Draft contract letters, evaluate claims and issue interim payment certificates (IPCs) on time.

Required profile

• BSc, BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in civil engineering projects.
• Working knowledge of specifications and Bills of Quantities (COLTO/COTO, SANS 1200) and contract conditions (SAICE GCC, FIDIC, NEC).
• Registration or progress towards registration with ECSA as a Professional Technician, Engineer or Engineering Technologist.
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable personal vehicle.

Required skills

• Microsoft Project (or similar scheduling software).
• Microsoft Office suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Technical knowledge of civil engineering specifications, Bills of Quantities and contract administration.
