Researcher/Senior Researcher in Accumulation and Inequalities

About the role

The Rhodes African Studies Centre (RASC) invites qualified scholars to join a two‑year contract as a Researcher or Senior Researcher focusing on accumulation and inequalities. The position is research‑intensive, with no teaching obligations, and contributes to the Centre’s interdisciplinary agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct original research on accumulation dynamics and inequality, with an emphasis on gendered aspects.
• Develop and lead interdisciplinary research projects within the Africa Multiple network.
• Publish findings in leading academic journals or as a monograph with a respected publisher.
• Present research at local and international conferences.
• Coordinate collaborative activities such as workshops, seminars, and conference organization.

Required profile

• PhD in African Studies, Political Economy, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, History, Gender Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Urban Planning, Cultural Studies, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research potential with an emerging publication record on accumulation and inequality.
• Experience in interdisciplinary or collaborative research projects is desirable.
• Ability to supervise postgraduate research is an advantage but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Strong analytical and conceptual skills in political economy and related fields.
• Experience with academic writing and publication processes.
• Proficiency in presenting research findings to academic audiences.
