Research Specialist

About the role

The Research Specialist will deliver high‑quality applied research that directly supports the bank’s strategic objectives. Working within the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the role generates evidence‑based insights to guide investment decisions, deepen sector intelligence and facilitate capital mobilisation across the infrastructure value chain.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct applied research on development finance instruments, infrastructure economics, climate change and sustainable development.
• Produce analytical reports and briefing notes that inform the bank’s investment decisions and policy formulation.
• Maintain and expand sector intelligence databases, tracking trends and emerging opportunities.
• Collaborate with investment, risk and project teams to translate research findings into actionable recommendations.
• Contribute to thought‑leadership publications, workshops and stakeholder engagements to reinforce the bank’s reputation as a knowledge leader.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in economics, finance, development studies or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in applied research within development finance, infrastructure or climate‑related sectors.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
