Renewable Energy Engineer – Utility‑Scale Solar & Wind

About the role

WSP Africa is expanding its renewable energy capability across Southern Africa and seeks an experienced Renewable Energy Engineer to join the Energy team in Midrand. You will act as a technical consultant on utility‑scale solar PV and wind projects, supporting the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies to commissioning and operational advisory.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality technical advisory services for utility‑scale solar PV and wind energy projects.
• Conduct technical and economic feasibility assessments, including integration with existing generation assets.
• Review and improve project designs, prepare technical specifications, bills of materials, and tender documentation.
• Support tender evaluation, contract negotiations, and selection of Balance of Plant, O&M, and EPC contractors.
• Perform technical due diligence for sponsors, lenders, and investors during financial close.
• Identify and mitigate project risks across construction, operation, finance, and internal dimensions.
• Monitor construction and acceptance activities, including site visits, commissioning supervision, and technical reporting.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams spanning electrical, mechanical, civil, and control disciplines.

Required profile

• Qualified engineering degree with a commitment to register as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA and achieve PrEng status within 1–3 years (existing ECSA registration is a plus).
• Proven experience in utility‑scale solar PV and/or wind energy projects.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to client sites, project locations, and manufacturers across Africa.
