Registered Nurse – Theatre Qualified – Orthopaedics & Ortho‑Spine Scrub

About the role

The Life Groenkloof Hospital is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse with theatre experience to join the Orthopaedics and Ortho‑Spine scrub team. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will support surgical procedures and ensure optimal patient care throughout the peri‑operative period.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team during orthopaedic and ortho‑spine procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Manage theatre clocking time and accurate charging for financial compliance.
• Control consignment stock, prostheses and equipment in line with hospital policy.
• Educate and supervise staff on correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Obtain pre‑operative information, conduct post‑operative patient visits, and provide quality patient care.
• Deliver theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal/overtime hours.
• Ensure compliance with SHEQ standards, including PPE use and medical waste disposal.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, attending review meetings as required.

Required profile

• General Nursing Degree or Diploma.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique.
• Relevant experience in orthopaedics and ortho‑spine theatre environments.
• Understanding of the private healthcare sector is an advantage.
• Problem‑solving, resilience, strong communication and ethical behaviour.
