Registered Nurse – Theatre (Experienced/Qualified)

About the role

The Life Sport Science Orthopaedic Surgical Day Centre is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to join its theatre team. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the nurse will support surgical teams across a range of procedures, ensuring patient safety and optimal care throughout the peri‑operative period.

Key responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during ENT, orthopaedic, plastics, dental and urology operations, including scrubbing and instrument handling.
• Manage theatre clocking time and ensure accurate charging for financial control.
• Maintain consignment stock, prostheses and equipment in line with hospital policy, participating in regular stock‑takes.
• Provide pre‑operative patient assessment and post‑operative follow‑up, ensuring comfort and continuity of care.
• Deliver theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal and overtime hours.
• Adhere to SHEQ standards, use personal protective equipment and dispose of medical waste correctly.
• Foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, escalating issues as needed.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a General Nursing Degree or Diploma.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Experience scrubbing for ENT, orthopaedics, plastics, dental and urology procedures.
• Understanding of private healthcare environment is an advantage.

Required skills

• Operating Theatre qualification (advantageous).
• SANC registration.
• Computer proficiency.
