Registered Nurse – Shift Leader (Akeso Clinics)

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) will act as shift leader at Akeso Clinics, ensuring safe, dignified, high‑quality mental and physical health care for patients. The RN leads the nursing team, coordinates care delivery and upholds professional and ethical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Allocate tasks to Enrolled Nurses, Enrolled Nursing Auxiliaries and Health Care Workers at the start of each shift and ensure proper handover.
• Maintain and enforce compliance with policies, procedures, the Nursing Act and relevant health legislation.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings (ward rounds, safety committees, infection control, etc.) and provide feedback on patient care.
• Supervise and appraise subordinates, plan in‑service training and promote staff development.
• Manage medication, consumables and equipment according to policy, including ordering, stock control and reporting of repairs.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with current registration in South Africa.
• Experience in mental health and physical health care settings, preferably in a leadership or shift‑leader role.
• Strong knowledge of the Nursing Act, Mental Health Care Act and related health regulations.
• Ability to supervise staff, conduct appraisals and deliver training.

• Computer literacy for electronic health records and reporting.
