Registered Nurse – ICU (5) – Life Eugene Marais Hospital

About the role

Life Healthcare Group is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse qualified in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to join the ICU‑5 team at Life Eugene Marais Hospital in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will deliver holistic, high‑quality nursing care to critically ill patients, supporting positive outcomes aligned with the hospital’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive pre‑operative assessment and post‑operative care for ICU patients.
• Assist physicians during surgical procedures and ensure patient comfort throughout.
• Manage theatre clocking time, charge accurately, and oversee consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis in line with hospital policy.
• Educate and supervise staff on correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation.
• Deliver theatre‑specific training, assess staff competence and monitor normal and overtime hours.
• Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment, ISO standards and proper medical waste disposal.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, attending review meetings and escalating unresolved issues.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) and a relevant Nursing Degree or Diploma.
• Critical Care qualification and 5–10 years of RN experience, preferably in ICU.
• Current registration with the appropriate professional regulatory body.
• Understanding of private healthcare environment and its challenges.
• Strong problem‑solving, resilience and communication skills.
