Quality Monitor – Food Safety & Quality Assurance

About the role

RCL Foods, a leading South African food manufacturer, is seeking a meticulous Quality Monitor for its baking business unit. The role focuses on monitoring and maintaining food safety and quality management systems, ensuring timely external laboratory analysis, and taking corrective action when results fall outside specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain all relevant food safety and quality management systems.
• Submit production samples for external analytical/microbiological testing according to schedule.
• Compare laboratory results to specifications and initiate actions for out‑of‑specification findings.
• Identify non‑conforming products and communicate them to the QA Technologist.
• Manage the environmental monitoring program, ensuring swabs are taken as required.
• Compile and continuously update a customer database for external analysis needs.
• Evaluate and trend test results to ensure ongoing compliance.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Consumer Science, Food Science, Food Technology, or related field (or equivalent N.D. qualification).
• 1‑2 years FMCG experience in a similar quality or food safety role.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data.
• Good written and verbal communication skills for interaction with suppliers and customers.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, including shift work.

Required skills

• Implementation and knowledge of ISO 22000.
• FSSC 22000 certification and experience.
• HACCP and QMS program familiarity.
• Microbiological testing techniques.
• Analytical testing techniques.
• PC literacy and basic numerical skills.
