Quality Manager – Food Manufacturing (Montagu, Western Cape)

About the role

The Quality Manager will lead all quality control and assurance activities for a food manufacturing site in Montagu, Western Cape. This hands‑on management position ensures safe, high‑quality products by championing food safety, compliance and continuous improvement in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain strict compliance with GMP, hygiene, sanitation, pest control and foreign‑body prevention programmes.
• Implement and monitor production processes, SOPs and quality limits; support product release decisions.
• Oversee HACCP, CCP and OPRP verification, trend analysis and risk management.
• Manage incoming raw‑material quality, supplier non‑conformances and FIFO/FEFO stock handling.
• Own the customer‑complaint process, conduct root‑cause investigations (5 Why, Fishbone) and coordinate corrective actions.
• Lead and develop the QC team, deliver training on food safety, allergen management and hygiene.
• Drive change‑management initiatives and ensure traceability systems are effective and tested.

Required profile

• Proven experience in quality management within food manufacturing.
• Hands‑on leadership style with tenacity and operational expertise.
• Ability to act as second‑in‑charge to the Food Safety Team Leader.
• Strong focus on building a “right‑first‑time” culture across departments.

Required skills

• Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) implementation.
• HACCP, Critical Control Points (CCP) and Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRP) management.
• Validated laboratory testing methods and good laboratory practices.
• Traceability systems and stock age reporting.
• Root‑cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone).
• Supplier performance monitoring and non‑conformance handling.
• FIFO/FEFO inventory control.
