R&D Technologist – Wet Condiments

About the role

The R&D Technologist will join Libstar’s Wet Condiments Category in Montagu, reporting to the Head of New Product Development. The role focuses on creating new products and improving existing ones while ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new product concepts, research recipes and adapt them for factory production.
• Prepare costings, complete Bills of Materials and submit them to the cost accountant.
• Conduct kitchen and factory trials, provide samples to customers and manage product handover documentation.
• Ensure products meet legislation, statutory and customer specifications, including shelf‑life and nutritional analysis.
• Source new raw and packaging materials, obtain pricing, MOQ and required documentation.
• Coordinate concept, pre‑trial, post‑trial meetings and maintain effective communication across teams.
• Assist with cost‑saving projects, audits and investigation of customer complaints.

Required profile

• BSc in Food Science or ND in Food Technology.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a similar food R&D role.
• Experience with FSSC 22000 standards.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret data and statistics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of FSSC 22000 food safety standards.
