Qualified Mechanical Fitter - Project Based Contract

About the role

The Engineering Department in Gauteng is looking for a hardworking, dedicated Qualified Mechanical Fitter to join its team. The department's in-house technical facilities, staffed by qualified engineers and artisans, maintain the organisation's machines and equipment. The successful candidate reports to the Engineering Manager. This is a project-based contract.

Key responsibilities

• Hydraulic and mechanical fault finding on equipment
• Remove and replace major components on mobile equipment, such as hydraulic valves, grabs, hydraulic cylinders, alternators and starter motors
• Replace defective or leaking hydraulic hoses, fittings and seals on mobile and stationary machines
• Replace blades and regularly check blade clearance on mobile shear machines
• Record and control stock levels of oils, hydraulic fittings, cylinders, pipes and spares used frequently
• Grease and top up oils on all machines and carry out routine inspections
• Perform planned and unplanned maintenance, troubleshooting machine breakdowns and quality control

Required profile

• Red Seal Fitter qualification
• At least 5 years of post-qualification experience
• Experience with stationary and earth-moving machinery
• Valid Code 8 driver's licence and own reliable motor vehicle
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, independently and in a team, and to work under pressure and in challenging conditions
• Willingness to work overtime when required
