Proposals Engineer – Durban

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Proposals Engineer to lead the preparation of technically compliant and commercially competitive proposals for complex engineering projects. The role involves estimating costs, developing tender documentation, and supporting the conversion of opportunities into awarded contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare technical and commercial proposals, including cost estimates and project schedules.
• Compile tender documentation in line with company procedures and customer requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Issue supplier enquiries, evaluate quotations and review purchase orders and contracts.
• Maintain and update costing data for standard products and services.
• Engage with customers, suppliers and internal teams throughout the proposal process.
• Support contract negotiations and follow‑up on submitted tenders.
• Maintain proposal databases and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in proposal development, cost estimating and tender management within an engineering environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously.
