Project Procurement Specialist – Capital Projects (Mining)

About the role

Our client, a leading mining company, is seeking a Project Procurement Specialist on a contract basis to manage procurement activities for capital projects in Rosebank, Johannesburg. You will develop and execute procurement strategies that support expansion, replacement, infrastructure, and social performance initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop procurement strategies, management plans and operating plans (POP) for various capital projects.
• Coordinate with category managers, site supply‑chain managers and supplier development officers to align strategies.
• Identify prospective suppliers, create supplier development plans and achieve preferential procurement objectives.
• Prepare, issue and adjudicate tenders; compile tender evaluations, adjudications and recommendation reports (TEAR) within project schedules.
• Prepare contract documents, administer executed contracts and close them out.
• Review and approve supporting documentation such as Single Source Motivations.
• Facilitate approval of TEARs, contracts and purchase orders while ensuring policy compliance.
• Identify required procurement resources, manage performance of direct reports and consultants.
• Produce required reporting and capture savings in line with company policies.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in business, engineering or related field, or a Diploma/Advanced certificate in Purchasing.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in capital‑project procurement, with at least two years as a Procurement Specialist.
• Mining experience preferred; strong knowledge of NEC contracts is mandatory.
• Own reliable vehicle, valid Code 08 driver’s licence and personal laptop.
• Willingness to travel to the site every two weeks.

Required skills

• NEC contract knowledge (non‑negotiable).
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience with SAP; experience with Ariba is highly desirable.
