Project Cost Accountant

About the role

Join a leading South African finance firm as a Project Cost Accountant, responsible for managing the financial lifecycle of projects and fixed assets. You will work closely with project teams to ensure accurate cost capture, reporting, and compliance with accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain policies, systems and internal controls for fixed‑asset identification, valuation, depreciation and reporting.
• Manage, review and analyse project costs, reconciling actual costs against approved Bills of Materials and comparable sites.
• Investigate costing exceptions, resolve queries and ensure timely capitalisation of qualifying costs.
• Maintain a detailed fixed‑asset register and perform monthly reconciliations with the general ledger.
• Calculate monthly depreciation, maintain schedules, assess useful lives and conduct impairment reviews.
• Prepare cash‑flow, capital‑expenditure forecasts and budgets; analyse variances against actual performance.
• Produce reports on project costs, asset performance and capital expenditure to support decision‑making.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations and documentation.
• Monitor compliance with accounting standards, financial policies and internal control requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a project cost accountant.
• Matric and a university degree (non‑negotiable).
• CIMA qualification is beneficial.
• Completed articles are advantageous.
